BellSouth Corp., Atlanta, announced that Duane Ackerman, who is currently vice chairman and chief operating officer, will succeed John L. Clendenin, who is chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer. Clendenin has served with the company since 1984 and will remain as a non-employee chairman through 1997. Ackerman has been with BellSouth and its predecessor companies for more than 31 years.


PageNet in Dallas has named Kenneth W. Sanders as senior vice president and chief financial officer. He replaces Barry A. Fromberg who was recently named chairman and chief executive officer of PageNet International.

Sprint, Washington, D.C., has announced the appointment of Jim Payne as assistant vice president for FTS 2000, the government's long distance telecommunications contract, and strategic marketing within the government systems division.

Allen E. Flower has been named vice president and chief financial officer of COMSAT Corp. in Bethesda, Md. He has served with the company for 26 years, directing the financial operation of both its entertainment and international communications business units.

ICF Kaiser International Inc. in Fairfax, Va., announced that Christopher Jehn has joined the company's consulting group as senior vice president. He will consult on human resources projects as part of ICF Kaiser's In-Career Education and Training practice. He will also develop human resources consulting and other business opportunities for the company.

Orkand Corp. of Silver Spring, Md., promoted Robert J. Dacanay to vice president. He will be responsible for two key technical contracts with the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Counsular Affairs and other related information technology projects.

The Telecommunications Industry Association in Arlington, Va., announced the election of Dr. Thomas Brackey of Hughes Space and Communications Co. as chairman of the newly formed TIA Satellite Communications Division. SCD will oversee a structure of sections and committees, which will address issues specific to the industry.

Kevin Nolan has been appointed to vice president of marketing and customer operations at Time Warner Cable's Full Service Network in Orlando, Fla. Nolan will oversee the customer service and field operations of the FSN, as well as the marketing efforts.

George W.S. Abbey has been named director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston. He has been serving as director since August 1995.

Realogic Inc., based in Cleveland, has promoted David C. Weyher to vice president of the eastern region, which is based in Alexandria, Va. The company also promoted J. Vance Myers to technical manager.

GETTING A WINDOW
Jeananne Nicholls has joined MTAC as deputy director for administration and project management. She will contribute to managing MTAC's programs, track and report successes, evaluate client services, develop proposals and administer subcontracts.

Singleton B. McAllister was sworn in as general counsel of the U.S. Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C. She follows Carol Lancaster who will be returning to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. As general counsel, McAllister is the chief legal officer of the agency and advises the administrator on agencywide policy matters.

AWARDS
The Suburban Maryland High Technology Council of Rockville, Md., was recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration for its outstanding contribution to small businesses. The award was given to SMHTC for the substantial contribution it has made to increasing public/private partnerships that bring resources together to help small businesses grow and create jobs.
