AT&ampT and Unisource, a joint venture between the national carriers of Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands, have agreed to form a $200 million, 2,000-employee company with 300 multinational customers. Pending regulatory approval, the unnamed company is expected to be operating by mid-1995. Unisource and AT&ampT will own the company on a 60/40 basis.

  • Cable television giant Comcast announced it will use its coaxial cable network to deliver online services. Coaxial cable is capable of carrying data 50 times faster than conventional phone lines. Other cable operators such as Continental Cablevision, Cox Enterprises and Cablevision Systems have already announced similar plans for their networks.

  • Scientific-Atlanta Inc., a major manufacturer of cable television equipment, is challenging Microsoft Corp. in the race to develop operating system software for interactive television. The Georgia-based company has formed a subsidiary, Power TV, to develop an interactive operating system for cable television, telephone and satellite delivery of multimedia content. Oracle Corp., Sybase Inc. and Scala Inc., which are all creating interactive applications, will develop Power TV -compatible versions of their respective software.
