Deloitte Consulting is mourning the loss of Jon Anders Taillon, one of its principals, who died unexpectedly on Feb. 20. He was 44 years old.

Taillon worked in the firm’s national defense, security and justice sector. His obituary describes him as “affable, easygoing and a good listener. He had a knack for walking into a room of complete strangers and coming away with several friends for life.”

“Since Jon’s first day at Deloitte 14 years ago, he brought a deep belief in the mission of government. His passion for technology could only be surpassed by his support for the people on his teams,” Dan Helfrich, chairman and CEO of Deloitte Consulting, said in an email to Washington Technology.

To honor his memory, Deloitte is working with Taillon’s alma mater Virginia Tech to build the Deloitte Foundation-Jon Taillon Analytics Center. The lab will be part of a new Global Business and Analytics Complex on the Virginia Tech campus.

The lab will be the “crown jewel” of the new complex, “where students will master analytics for many generations to come,” according to Taillon’s obituary.

“We will never replace Jon’s innovation and passion—but we will keep pursuing his belief in the impact we can make on our clients and our people,” Helfrich said.

Taillon is survived by his wife and two sons. He was known for spending time playing basketball and baseball, as well as building Legos with his sons. He also coached several of the sports teams.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and was a member of the university’s Business Information Technology Board.

The family is holding a visitation on Monday March 2, from 10 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7 p.m. at the National Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia. A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 3 at the Unitarian Church of Arlington in Arlington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jon Anders Taillon Memorial Scholarship Fund at Virginia Tech’s School of Business. Donations can be mailed to Virginia Tech Advancement Division Office of Gift Accounting, University Gateway Center (0336), 902 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
