Dive into DHS at our next WT Industry Day

Senior DHS officials including CIO John Zangardi headline our upcoming DHS Industry Day.

The Homeland Security Department has one of the biggest and most diverse budgets on the civilian side of the federal market.

And this Friday we are offering exclusive insights into the department by hosting a Washington Technology Industry Day focused just on DHS.

We’ve booked the agency’s new Chief Information OfficerJohn Zangardi. He will talk about his priorities and other IT trends at DHS. Zangardi comes to DHS from the Defense Department where he was principal deputy CIO and then acting CIO.

Backing him up is DHS Chief Procurement Officer Soraya Correa, who will be speaking on how the department is using IT to enable the mission. That is always a popular topic as more government agencies look to leverage their IT investments and tie them directly to results.

Mark Borkowski, chief acquisition officer for Customs and Border Protection, will provide some insights from the front lines of the department’s activities. He’ll speak about modernizing systems under rapidly changing requirements.

Other parts of DHS that will be represented are the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Transportation Security Agency and the Coast Guard.

Katrina Brisbon, TSA’s assistant administrator for contracting and procurement, will speak on leveraging IT for improved security. She helps oversee TSA’s $3.8 billion acquisition portfolio.

The Coast Guard’s Michael Derrios will speak on the importance of adding structure to meet increasing demands. Derrios is the senior procurement executive and director of contracting and procurement at the Coast Guard. He manages some 40,000 transactions totaling $3 billion in value each year.

We are still waiting on final clearance but we expect Bobby McCane, FEMA’s chief procurement officer to speak.

In addition to the speakers, there will be time for networking before the program -- breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. and the program kicks off at 8:15 a.m. We’ll also have a networking break about halfway through.

So come out to learn about DHS and connect with partners and customers.
