4 firms tapped by GSA to launch modernization centers of excellence

Four companies have been picked by the General Services Administration to help establish best practices for IT modernization efforts.
Four companies have been picked by the General Services Administration to establish five centers of excellence to establish best practices for IT modernization efforts.
The terms and value of the contracts were not disclosed but the companies will provide consulting and IT engineering services to help agencies improve systems that interact with citizens.
The five contracts went to:
- SIE Consulting Group for cloud adoption
- McKinsey & Co. for IT infrastructure optimization
- ICF International for customer experience and service delivery analytics
- Kaiser Associates for contract center
ICF won two of the five contracts.
The work will begin at the Agriculture Department, which GSA described as a lighthouse agency because it will serve as the early proving ground for modernization initiatives.
“The awards announced today mark a major milestone in implementing the administration’s far-reaching federal IT modernization effort,” said GSA’s acting director of Technology Transformation Services (TTS) and deputy commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service Joanne Collins Smee.
The goal of the centers is to build an IT infrastructure “that will make it easier for American people to interact with their government,” she said.
In conjunction with the announcement, GSA named Bob DeLuca to manage day to day operations of the effort.
Each center of excellence will cover a different area such cloud adoption, IT Infrastructure, and customer experience. Each center and its contractor will work on establishing best practices for other agencies to follow.
The centers of excellence initiative has backing from the White House and came out of the Office of American Innovation headed by presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner. The White House hosted an industry day for the program in December.
