Modernization, cyber take center stage at Defense Systems Summit

Government contractors will have a great opportunity to hear directly from DOD decision-makers at the Defense Systems Summit on Nov. 14 as they talk cyber and IT modernization.

Our sister publication Defense Systems has lined up a great group of speakers for their conference on Nov. 14, so I wanted to call some attention to it.

The Defense Systems Summit is Nov. 14 at the Pentagon City Ritz Carlton in Arlington, Va.

Among the speakers are Major Gn. Sarah Zabel, director of the IT acquisition process development office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition. She’ll be speaking about cyber strategy to address fast-emerging threats.

She’ll discuss the Air Force’s IT modernization strategy, including the use of an open architecture and the rapid integration of emerging commercial technologies.

There also will be a panel on the future of the cloud that features AJ Bognar, chief of Army data center consolidation and cloud transformation; John Hale, head of DISA's cloud portfolio office; and Robert Vietmeyer, associate director for cloud computing and agile development in DOD’s CIO office.

A second panel will focus on DOD modernization strategies and best practices. The panel will feature John Bergin, business technology officer for the DOD CIO; and Leonel Garciga, J6 Chief and chief technology officer of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

The day wraps up with a fireside chat hosted by Kris Osborn, editor-in-chief of Defense Systems. He’ll talk with Tommy Gardner, CTO at HPE Federal; and Frank Konieczny, CTO, of the Air Force, about evolving cyber strategies.

Cyber will be an important topic throughout the morning but other topics to be covered include emerging defense IT priorities, data center virtualization and optimization, software-defined operations and cloud-based operations.

In addition to the speakers this will also be a great networking opportunity to meet defense customers, check out competitors and connect with potential partners.
