Earth Resources Technology wins $700M NOAA ground system contract

Earth Resources Technology has won a potential 10-year, $699.6 million contract to operate and maintain ground-based information technology and antenna systems for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

NOAA sought a vendor to help support its constellation of satellites that provide weather and environmental data to U.S. government agencies, private sector entities and international partners.

ERT said Tuesday it will operate, maintain and sustain legacy ground systems until NOAA transitions to the next generation of platforms and those become operational.

NOAA received 10 offers for the contract including the bid put in by ERT, according to Federal Procurement Data System information. This contract is a consolidation of prior IT satellite ground and product processing services into a single procurement.

Laurel, Maryland-headquartered ERT will also work with NOAA to move future satellite product processing functions into a secure government cloud environment.

NOAA has already awarded the first four task orders to ERT that each has a one-year base period of performance and up to four individual option years.

ERT was founded in 1993 and has concentrated on integrating remote sensing science data with mission-collected data to create models and developing software and data systems for supporting scientific data analysis, data management and data distribution functions.
