VA expands $722M medical center telecom contract

The Veterans Affairs Department doubles the number of wired telecommunication providers to medical centers under a $722 million contract vehicle.

The Veterans Affairs Department has doubled the number of providers of wired telecommunication services to VA Medical Centers under a potential 15-year, $722 million contract vehicle.

Three of those awardees are incumbents that will continue on the National Local Exchange Carrier - Next Generation contract covering telephone and data services around the clock.

All six who bid for the contract received seats:

  • AT&T (incumbent)
  • Granite Telecommunications
  • Lumen Technologies (incumbent, formerly CenturyLink)
  • MetTel
  • Windstream (incumbent)
  • Zayo Group

Providers will work at designated medical centers, Veteran Outreach Centers, VA business offices, community-based outreach clinics and other facilities in the continental U.S.

Under this contract, the VA aims to centralize local exchange carrier services including customer service and help desk support.
