Cognosante's newest deal targets cyber growth

Cognosante was a seller last year, but this new deal sees them as a buyer and the company being purchased focuses on cybersecurity.

Cognosante has acquired Enterprise Information Services, a provider of cybersecurity and other technology services to federal agencies.

Terms of the transaction announced Monday were undisclosed, but Cognosante said EIS will operate as a subsidiary with its President Vonod Goyal reporting directly to Cognosante founder and CEO Michele Kang.

“The acquisition of EIS is the latest accomplishment in Cognosante’s growth strategy continuing to expand its federal market offering and strengthening its portfolio of contract vehicles,” Kang said in a release.

Vienna, Virginia-based EIS was founded in 1994 and its customers include the departments of Defense and Homeland Security, intelligence community members; and civilian agencies such as the departments of State and Energy, plus the Postal Service.

Investment bank KippsDeSanto & Co. advised EIS on the transaction.

Cognosante has been looking for the right deal since its most recent contribution to the government market’s merger-and-acquisition environment as a seller. Last year, Cognosante sold a consulting division to NTT Data in a move aimed at focusing more around the former’s core health care technology solutions.

Before that, Cognosante’s most recent acquisitions were of contact center monitoring company J.Lodge in 2018 and The BITS Group in 2016.
