Navy preps for Seaport NXG on-ramp process

The Navy releases a timeline for the on-ramp process for its large SeaPort NXG professional services contract.
The Navy is getting ready to give companies another shot at getting on the branch’s primary contract vehicle for engineering, technical and other professional support services.
In a July 26 FedBizOpps notice, the Navy said it plans to issue a solicitation sometime in January 2021 for an on-ramp on its potential $21 billion SeaPort Next Generation contract that first went to 1,870 companies in December 2018.
Proposals would then be due in February 2021 with an award to follow in June, the Navy said in its presolicitation notice.
SeaPort NXG differed from its predecessors in that it is divided into two services categories: engineering support and program management support. That is a departure from the previous structure based on regions and 23 functional areas.
But the new iteration did raise the bar in terms of past experience. Bidders had to explain their relevant work with the Navy in at least one of those 23 areas, although that work could have been performed either as a prime or subcontractor.
Work for other government agencies will not be considered if the Navy keeps to the same criteria for the on-ramp. But awardees can bid on any task order regardless of location of work.
