Public sector cloud spending begins to accelerate
When the dust settles on fiscal 2018, cloud spending is expected to have increased by 32 percent, reaching $6.5 billion in obligations.
Cloud contract obligations are expected increase 32 percent in fiscal year 2018, with spending reaching $6.5 billion, up from $4.9 billion in fiscal year 2017, according to Bloomberg Government.
Based on spending at this point in the fiscal year, the Defense Department will spend approximately $2 billion by itself, with civilian agencies obligating $4.4 billion. With less than a month left in fiscal year 2018, Bloomberg suggests an additional $1.8 billion may be awarded in contracts and task orders before Sept. 30.
After DOD, the agencies most invested in cloud include Department of Health and Human Services, NASA and the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Top cloud contractors include CMS' Virtual Data Center, Alliant Large Business, and Schedule 70.
The cloud contractor with the most obligations in fiscal 2017 and 2018 was Perspecta Inc., which accounted for 11.7 percent of the market during that time.
