Serco's U.S. arm names Shields to new health services lead role

Serco Group's U.S. subsidiary appoints recently-hired former CMS executive Karen Shields to the new role of vice president of health services.

Serco Group's U.S. subsidiary has shifted the recently-hired Karen Shields to a newly-created role of vice president of the government services contractor's health services business unit.

Reston, Virginia-based Serco Inc. said Friday that Shields will oversee operations and development of all business with the Department of Health and Human Services.

Shields joined the company in October from her prior role as deputy director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, which is under the jurisdiction of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

At CCIIO, Shields was the lead executive for business operations and day-to-day management for the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

She has also worked in the private sector and spent nine years at Lockheed Martin.
