Raytheon takes in $78M Air Force 'friend or foe' order

Raytheon receives a $78 million Air Force contract to produce transponders that can identify friendly versus adversarial forces and determine a target's distance.
Raytheon has received a three-year, $78 million sole-source contract to deliver transponders the Air Force uses to identify aircraft, vehicles or forces as friendly or adversarial.
Both military and civilian air traffic control users also operate the Raytheon-built Identification Friend or Foe systems in-flight to determine bearing and range of targets from an interrogator.
IFF systems are built to operate on airplanes, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The contract covers deliveries through Jan. 6, 2020.
