George Washington University’s Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship has chosen 12 teams out of 116 submissions to compete in the finals of a collegiate business plan competition.

The office will award $260,000 in total cash and in-kind prizes for the 2017 New Venture Competition to take place April 20 at the school’s Jack Morton Auditorium.

GWU designed the New Venture Competition to give students, faculty, staff and alumni a real-world educational experience to help them develop, test and launch their own startup businesses.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) will deliver the keynote address.

HomeGrown Farms won last year’s competition for their idea on how to approach indoor farming.
