The federal IT community is still laden with cybersecurity, workforce and acquisition issues according to a new report from the Federal CIO and the General Services Administration.

The report does acknowledge improvement of federal IT across the government, but stresses that the improvement must continue, FCW reported.

Acquisition still is not fast enough to keep ahead of cyber threats, and much of the problem might lie with the nature of the federal acquisition environment. Complex contracts with security companies may also make it more difficult for agencies to switch providers, FCW quoted ex-Federal CIO Tony Scott as saying.

The report said that agencies could use more agile response capabilities and could benefit from allowing open source review of federal source code.
