As is typical, October, the first month of the new fiscal year, saw a slowdown in the number of contracts being awarded compared to the always active month that precedes it.
Washington Technology covered 49 awards in October, compared to a mighty 71 awards during September.
October’s 49 contract awards is less than October 2014’s 54 awards, snapping a three month long streak of 2015’s monthly contract award number surpassing 2014’s monthly number.
But some huge contracts were awarded this month. To make the top 10 list in October, you had to have won a contract worth more than $211 million.
Multiple-award contracts took up two spots this month, but October's biggest contract went to a single winner.
However, the October contract roundup is really more of a story of losing bidders, as two of the biggest contracts on this list went to non-incumbents.

10. NCI scores $211M agile acquisition, systems engineering contract
NCI Inc. has won a $211 million contract to provide agile acquisition, systems engineering and logistics to the U.S. Army Program Executive Office Soldier headquarters and subordinate PEO programs.
9. ManTech nabs $250M contract for cyber range services
ManTech International has won a $250 million contract to provide cyber range services to the Defense Information Systems Agency and the U.S. Marine Corps.
8. Macfadden to support USAID bureau under a $300M contract
Macfadden has won a $300 million contract to support a bureau within the U.S. Agency for International Development.
7. Raytheon wins $393M ISR mission support contract
Raytheon has won a $393 million contract to continue its mission support for the U.S. Air Force’s Distributed Common Ground System.
6. Protests net new awards for SOCOM's $450M mission support services contract
The U.S. Special Operations Command has given in and added all remaining bidders to a $450 million support services contract originally awarded in August.

2. Small biz winners named for $5B Air Force cyber contract
