Lockheed Martin has won a $78 million contract to upgrade the Army’s Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).
The ATACMS is a long-range precision strike surface-to-surface weapon, Lockheed Martin said in a release. The system has fired more than 560 missiles in combat.
The missile system needs to be upgraded to meet Army long-range strike requirement. Current missiles have a risk of unexploded ordnance when they eliminate targets, the company said.
