HealthCare.gov sticks with Accenture

Accenture wins five-year, $563 million contract to continue supporting the HealthCare.gov portal.

As 2014 came to a close, Accenture won a $563 million contract to support HealthCare.gov for the next five years.

Accenture took over the contract last year after its original contractor, CGI Federal, fumbled the launch of the portal that is the centerpiece of President Obama’s health care reform effort.

HealthCare.gov is a health insurance marketplace and is in the midst of its 2015 open enrollment period.

“We are pleased that Accenture will continue to support HealthCare.gov, as we work together to help millions of Americans sign up for quality, affordable health insurance,” said Marilyn Tavenner, administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, in an Accenture statement.

The company touts three main accomplishments in its Dec. 29 announcement:

  • Completing all transition activities in an accelerated timeline
  • Executing architecture changes to increase capacity
  • Implementing usability improvements and re-enrollment capability to support the 2015 open enrollment.

In an FBO.gov notice about the award, CMS said that the contract was competitively awarded, but there is no word yet on who other bidders may have been.
