MITRE to support NIST with cybersecurity FFRDC

The MITRE Corp. received a $5 million contract from the National Institute of Science and Technology to support a cybersecurity-related research center.

NIST announced the award the single indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract as it sets up a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) Sept. 22.

MITRE will help NIST with operation, management and administration of NIST’s efforts to conduct projects and various activities related to cybersecurity solutions composed of commercial components and the integration of technology to build trustworthy information systems for government agencies.

In large part, the FFRDC address urgent national requirements to rapidly assemble and put into working order scientific and engineering experts to improve the government’s and the private-sector’s information systems. The confidentiality, integrity, and assured service shortcomings of these information systems pose a serious risk to national security, public safety and economic prosperity, NISST said in its solicitation.

NIST issued its initial solicitation in April.
