General Technical Systems has won an $11.8 million Navy contract to develop a prototype of a mobile non-contact biometrics system.

General Technical Systems, a small Virginia Beach based contractor, has won an $11.8 million Navy contract to develop a prototype of a mobile, non-contact biometrics system.

Called the Gatekeeper On the Move – Biometrics, or GOTM-B, the system captures biometric information such as 3-D finger, face and iris from people as they move through the coverage area.

The data that is collected is then analyzed and compared to biometric information on file.

Work will be performed in Virginia Beach (80 percent) and Tampa, Fla. (20 percent). The contract runs through July 2017.

General Technical Systems was the only bidder for the work.
