The Office of Personnel Management will begin on Feb. 24 to conduct all final reviews of background investigations, taking back the work from USIS, which was accused by the Justice Department of fraud, according to Bloomberg.
USIS was responsible for vetting both Edward Snowden and the gunman who killed 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard, and both instances led the Justice Department to claim the company failed to provide adequate background checks; in fact, the Justice Department claimed that USIS had 665,000 instances of not vetting properly, Bloomberg reported.
So far, it is unclear how USIS’s revenue or contracts will be affected. The company has cooperated with the government’s investigation, appointed new leadership and enhanced oversight procedures, Bloomberg reported.
