DOD needs options for file-transfer system update

The Defense Health Agency needs to continue developing the Defense Department’s Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) Electronic Case File Transfer application (eCFT) and wants to find the best approaches to move forward.

Both DOD and the Veterans Affairs Department had been using IDES to evaluate service members’ medical fitness and continued service abilities, and also determine appropriate compensation. In recent years, the transfer of information was moved a paperless system. eCFT has handled the records transfer between military departments and the VA.

Now though, the VA has moved its side of IDES, and the department requested DOD send all eCFT IDES case files directly into the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record-Data Access System (VLER-DAS).

As a result, DOD has to have a system that interfaces with VA’s VLER-DAS. To develop its side, DHA is researching capabilities of companies to continue development of DOD’s IDES eCFT application. Officials are tapping the market for ideas on how to do it.

DHA will accept responses to its request for information until Feb. 11.
