Northrop Grumman has won a $43 million contract to retrofit the Air Force’s Joint STARS aircraft, trainers and laboratories.

Northrop Grumman has won a $43 million contract to retrofit the Air Force’s Joint STARS aircraft, trainers and laboratories.

The E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System is the premier command, control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform for the Air Force’s air-to-ground battle management and surveillance operations, Northrop Grumman said in a release.

Under the contract, Northrop will replace computers in both the operator work stations and radar signal processors, install larger operator work station displays to improve operator situational awareness and migrate the operator work station operating system to a LINUX-based, open-system architecture.
