IT budgets surviving cuts, so far
A recent Gartner study shows that, despite the drive to cut IT services cost, IT budgets in 2013 have either stayed where they were, or have risen.
According to a recent study conducted by Gartner, IT budgets in 2013 are either flat or increasing, despite the drive to lower the cost of IT services.
Government CIOs are in better positions to deliver and manage IT services more effectively and efficiently and are “now poised to boost the business value of IT by radically restructuring their services portfolio to drive innovation and improve the performance of government,” said Gartner research director Rick Howard.
One significant fact is that these findings contrast the private sector, which is lagging behind. Usually, the opposite is true, Gartner said. But this good news may be a short-lived, as private-sector business leaders will boost investments in e-commerce, mobile, cloud, social and other major tech categories.
The study also listed the top 10 business and technology priorities for government CIOs in 2013, polling over 1,959 such CIOs worldwide, including 398 public-sector CIOs from all over the world.
