Northrop wins $15.3M software upgrade of Triton UAV

Northrop Grumman has won a $15.3 million contract modification with the U.S. Navy to support the systems development and demonstration of the MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aircraft System.

The MQ-4C Triton is used for maritime surveillance, and is developed under the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance program. It is intended to complement the Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft.

Under the modification, Northrop Grumman will provide a software upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7, the Defense Department said.

Work will take place in Hollywood, Md., Bethpage, N.Y., Rancho Bernardo, Calif., San Diego, Calif., Salt Lake City, Utah, Stillwater, Okla., Melbourne, Fla., and Van Nuys, Calif., and is expected to be completed in April 2014.

No funds will be obligated at the time of the award.
