L-3 spinoff to spend $6.5M for Northern Virginia headquarters
The new company will be located in office space currently occupied by L-3 Communications in Chantilly, Va.
Engility Holdings Inc., a planned spinoff of L-3 Services Inc. that will be renamed Engility Corp., will invest $6.5 million to locate its corporate headquarters in Fairfax County, Va., once the spin-off is complete.
L-3 announced its plans to divest the government systems engineering and technical services provider in July 2011.
The new company will be located in office space currently occupied by L-3 Communications in Chantilly, Va., and will employ 9,200 worldwide, according to an April 26 joint announcement by Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.
Virginia successfully competed against Maryland for the project, which will create 50 new jobs in addition to more than 300 personnel currently based in Fairfax County, the announcement said.
McDonnell approved a $350,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Fairfax County with the project.
Through its Virginia Jobs Investment Program, the Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide funding and services to support the company’s recruitment and training activities.
“Engility has had a long-standing presence in both Fairfax County and Chantilly through our legacy companies,” said Tony Smeraglinolo, executive vice president of L-3 Services, who will become Engility’s chief executive officer upon completion of the spin-off.
L-3 Communications, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 8 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
