Senators call for DOD to review ANC contracts
In the wake of the an alleged fraud scheme that cost the government $20 million, senators want Alaskan Native Corp. contracts reviewed.
Following an alleged sham that cost the government millions, some lawmakers are calling for a thorough Defense Department review of the data within Alaskan Native Corporations' contracts.
Senators Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and John McCain (R-Az.) wrote a letter Oct. 12 to Frank Kendall, acting undersecretary of Defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, asking for a top-down data review of all sole-source contracts won by ANCs before the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act took effect, reports the Federal Times.
"As you know, for some time we have been concerned about abuses in defense contracting associated with special exceptions, rules, and procedures that apply to ANCs under section 8(a) of the Small Business Act," the letter stated.
To prevent this type of fraud from happening in the future, the authorization act requires contracting officers to justify and get approval for a sole-source contract worth more than $20 million that has been set aside for small and disadvantaged businesses, which includes ANCs, the news article explained.
