Dan Bannister and CTOs cited for achievements

Dan Bannister was honored Tuesday evening for his years of leadership and service to the technology community and the winners of NVTC’s second annual Green Awards and the inaugural NVTC/WT CTO innovation awards also were announced.

Dan Bannister, chairman emeritus of the Northern Virginia Technology Council and chief executive of Bannister Enterprises, led a series of technology executives and companies to be honored at Tech Celebration, the NVTC’s annual banquet.

Bannister was honored Tuesday evening for his years of leadership and service to the technology community and to the NVTC.

The inaugural NVTC/Washington Technology Government Contractor CTO Innovator Awards paid tribute to the honorees’ critical contributions and leadership in their own companies. The winners and finalists were:

  • Dr. H. Gilbert Miller, Noblis.

The winners and finalists of NVTC’s second annual Green Awards were recognized for making an impact on the Northern Virginia region through their innovative environmental practices. They were:

  • Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.

In his keynote address, Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers urged business, government and technology to work together, not at cross purposes, to foster innovation, which he called the real strength of the country.

Chambers said although he is bullish on the innovative aptitude of U.S. entrepreneurship and business, “the business models of the past will be just that.”

The coming next generation of the industrial revolution will be built on a social network structure, he predicted, in which the work is brought to the employee on a virtual basis.
