Former trade group lobbyist will don Red Hat title

Mark Bohannon, former senior vice president of the trade group Software & Information Industry Association, will join Red Hat Inc. on Oct. 1 as vice president of corporate affairs and global public policy.

Bohannon also has served on numerous federal government delegations to bilateral negotiations and multilateral bodies such as The Hague, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and the World Trade Organization.

Mark Bohannon, former senior vice president of the trade group Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), will join Red Hat Inc. on Oct. 1 as vice president of corporate affairs and global public policy.

He will represent the interests of the Raleigh, N.C., provider of open-source solutions before policymakers in government, industry and other venues on issues such as technology and innovation policy, open source and standards adoption, intellectual property legislation, government technology initiatives and tax regulation.

During his 10 years at SIIA, Bohannon was responsible for the association’s government relations agenda.

Among his leadership roles, Bohannon served as chairman of the executive committee of the United States Information Technology Office, the representative of the U.S. IT industry, to China in 2007 to 2008.

Earlier, he served as chief counsel for technology and counselor in the Office of Under Secretary for Technology at the Commerce Department.
