VA plans wide-ranging IT services contract
The Veterans Affairs Department plans to compete an extensive, multiple-award information technology services contract that would meet the department's software, hardware and engineering needs.
The program, named Transformation Twenty-One Total Technology (T4), would include hardware and software requirements that span current and future technical environments, according to a draft statement of work performance for the program. The document was included in a notice recently published on Federal Business Opportunities Web site.
The VA said it plans to award multiple task orders under the contract. T4’s basic contract is planned for a base of five years with an option to extend it for two years.
The department said T4 isn’t intended to be limited to purchasing IT products but rather could include acquisitions of hardware and software, as well as systems and technical engineering. VA said work under the contract could involve program management, strategy planning, enterprise network, cybersecurity, network and telecommunications infrastructure, as well as operations and maintenance.
The VA didn’t provide a dollar amount for the planned procurement or a date for when it plans to issue a final solicitation. However, the department is seeking comment on its draft performance work statement by Jan. 11, 2010.
In a separate move, VA announced in July that it planned to temporarily halt 45 information technology projects with a combined budget of $200 million so officials could decide whether the programs should continue. Nextgov.com reported on Dec. 2 that VA had decided to end or cut funding for 15 of those projects.
