Verizon offers virtualization under Networx
Carrier expands offerings under the huge government telecommunications contract.
Networx Universal carrier Verizon Business this week announced the expansion of its server virtualization business with a full suite of services from assessment of an existing environment to design, implementation, application migration and review.
“As enterprises around the world question how to do more with less, many are finding a strong answer in virtualization,” said Kerry Bailey, Verizon Business senior vice president of global services.
Virtualization uncouples operating systems and applications from the physical hardware, letting servers run multiple virtual environments on a single machine.
Public and private sector enterprises increasingly are looking to server consolidation and virtualization to curb the expensive growth in server hardware and software, and to provide a business continuity solution.
The services are available to federal agencies under the General Services Administration’s Networx telecommunications contract. “We are prepared to deliver the services today under Networx,” a Verizon Business spokeswoman said.
“Government customers can request any or all of the full suite of services under Networx custom design and engineering services,” she said.
In its virtualization consulting and management offering, Verizon Business breaks virtualization project support into steps that let enterprises select the service level and complexity they need:
- Server consolidation assessment. Analyze server environment.
- Server consolidation design. Use the assessment and a review of business and technical requirements to design a new consolidated environment.
- Secure virtualization assessment and design. Combine assessment and design services with a security assessment of the proposed virtualization environment.
- Virtualization design. Design a new environment with virtualization as a key consideration, but without necessarily consolidating existing infrastructure.
- Virtualization build: Build and implement a virtualized solution based on a design by Verizon or the customer. Service includes installing the hardware and network, as well as configuring the virtual application.
- Virtualization migration. Migrate customer applications and data to the new virtualized environment.
- Virtualization deployment review. Assess and provide feedback on virtualized environments implemented by the customer or a third party, and verify adherence to industry best practices.
