Lockheed to support logistics for Special Operations Command

The U.S. Special Operations Command has awarded Lockheed Martin Corp. a contract potentially worth $5 billion over 10 years to provide various support services to maintain military equipment and information technology infrastructure.

Under the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract, Lockheed Martin will maintain and repair aircraft, ground vehicles, weaponry and electronics equipment, company officials said March 3. The contractor will also manage parts and supplies as they move through warehouses and depots domestically and overseas.

In addition, Lockheed Martin will maintain and improve the command’s critical infrastructure, which includes secure IT networks at facilities worldwide, officials said. In addition, the company will assist the command in developing and implementing streamlined business processes to reduce costs and shorten timelines.

The agreement under which Lockheed Martin will perform the work is called the Special Operations Forces Support Activity Contractor Logistics Support contract.

The U.S. Special Operations Command is a unified command within the Defense Department responsible for overseeing the special operations elements of the Army, Navy and Air Force. Its headquarters is at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
