New York cancels wireless public safety network

New York state officials this week terminated a massive statewide wireless network contract after a protracted dispute with prime contractor M/A-Com, reports Information Week.

The state’s chief information officer and its Office for Technology said M/A-Com “has failed to deliver a satisfactory and acceptable public-safety communications network and is in default on the contract.” The price tag on the project was about $2 billion.

State officials charge that the network didn’t work right, while M/A-Com contends that its work was in compliance with contract specifications. The two sides are likely to wind up in court over the matter, according to the publication.
