Northrop to build data exchange for vessel tracking system
Northrop Grumman Corp. will help the Coast Guard with its continued efforts to build a national identification system to track marine vessels under a new contract.
Northrop Grumman Corp. will help the Coast Guard with its continuing efforts to build a national identification system to track marine vessels under a two-year, $12 million contract.
Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will provide the core data exchange capability for the National Automatic Identification System, Coast Guard officials said Dec. 22.
The contractor will provide shore-side communications, network and processing capability to ensure that information can be transmitted between AIS-equipped vessels, aircraft, navigation aids and shore stations, as well as from AIS-equipped vessels bound for the United States.
In addition, Northrop Grumman also will deliver, transmit and expand the capability to receive information for Coast Guard sectors Philadelphia; Hampton Roads, Va.; and Mobile, Ala.
The two-year contract has six one-year options. It might be worth as much as $68 million if all options are exercised, according to a notice posted Dec. 22 on FedBizOpps.
Northrop Grumman’s Command and Control Systems Division, based in Herndon, Va., will do the work.
Northrop Grumman, of Los Angeles, ranks No. 3 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
