Boeing protests GOES-R award to Lockheed

Boeing has filed a protest with GAO challenging the award of a $1.1 billion contract for next-gen weather satellites to Lockheed Martin.

Boeing Co. has filed a protest with the Government Accountability Office challenging the award of a $1.1 billion contract for next-generation weather satellites to Lockheed Martin Corp., reports Reuters.

Boeing filed the Dec. 15 protest because “we felt like we had a superior product under the disclosed evaluation criteria,” Boeing spokeswoman Diana Ball told Reuters.

The contract, awarded Dec. 2 by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), calls for Lockheed to build two Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-Series (GOES-R), and includes options for two additional spacecraft.
