SAIC to help defeat IED threat
SAIC will assist the Defense Department in defeating the threat of improvised explosive devises under a new task order.
Science Applications International Corp. will assist the Defense Department in designing and operating systems to defeat the threat of improvised explosive devises under a task order worth more than $11 million.
The award from the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) calls for SAIC to design, implement, operate and maintain the organization's Enterprise Management System. The contractor also will provide program and project management, application development, hosting, operation, information assurance, acquisition, and training services.
JIEDDO coordinates efforts among DOD organizations and international agencies to defeat the threat posed by IEDs against United States and coalition forces.
The task order was awarded under the Information Technology Enterprise Solutions - 2 Services contract. It has a one-year base period and one six-month option. The work will be primarily performed in the National Capital Region, SAIC officials said.
SAIC, of San Diego, ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
