In a move to boost its position in the market segment of autonomous command and control, SRA International Inc. has purchased software developer Interface & Control Systems Inc.

ICS, of Columbia, Md., provides integrated ground and flight autonomous command and control software and services to both the government and commercial sectors. The software is used for satellites, control centers, ground stations, test sets, simulators and e-business systems.

ICS' software is used for NASA's Constellation project, which seeks to deploy next-generation spacecraft, and for the Defense Department's tactical satellite program, known as TAC-SAT.

Autonomous command and control is a strategically significant market segment, said Stan Sloane, SRA president and chief executive officer, in a news release announcing the purchase. "The ICS acquisition brings to SRA an experienced management team, a highly specialized employee base and valuable intellectual property," he said.

ICS will become part of the Intelligence and Space Strategic Business Unit within SRA's National Security Sector, SRA said.

SRA, of Fairfax, Va., ranks No. 32 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
