Harris to furnish satellite terminals to Navy

Harris Corp. will provide support for Navy shipboard satellite communications systems under a new contract.

Harris Corp. will provide support for Navy shipboard satellite communications systems under a new $15.1 million contract.

The contract calls for Harris to supply terminals that will provide commercial-satellite connectivity to ships in the U.S. fleet. The company will perform the work in Palm Bay, Fla.

Although the initial work is expected to be completed by January 2009, the contract has five one-year options for a potential total value of $85.3 million, the Defense Department said Friday.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems in San Diego is the contracting authority. The work supports the Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence and Space.

Harris, of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 13 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
