EDS consortium wins Singapore ITO deal

A consortium led by EDS Corp. will assist the Singapore government to develop and adopt a standard approach to information technology tools and resources by 2010 under an eight-year contract worth about $1 billion.

Under the terms of the IT outsourcing contract, the consortium will help the Singapore government achieve a standard desktop, network and messaging and collaboration environment across all government ministries, departments and statutory boards, the company said.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore awarded the contract. When completed, the project will link roughly 60,000 government workstations and laptop PCs at 74 public agencies.

The goal of the project, known as the Standard ICT Operating Environment, or SOEasy, is to create a secure environment in which users will have universal access to integrated voice, video and data communications. The initiative is designed to incorporate the latest commercial technologies and centralize IT budgets and expenditures.

The oneMeridian consortium includes Singapore Computer Systems Ltd., Frontline Technologies Corp., Fuji Xerox, Avanade, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco Systems Inc., Microsoft Corp. and SingTei.
