ACS wins Ill. electronic benefits deal

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. will provide electronic benefits transfer services to the Illinois Human Services Department under a newly awarded subcontract.

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. will provide electronic benefits transfer services to the Illinois Human Services Department under a five-year, $36 million subcontract.

Under the terms of the subcontract, ACS will provide retail management and software support services for the state's LINK program, which enables those who receive food stamps and cash assistance to receive them electronically through a debit card. Each month recipients get a pre-set amount of funds through the LINK card.

As part of its work, ACS said it will set up a Web site for cardholders to view transactions online, enhance the interactive voice response system and process card replacement requests.

Northrop Grumman Information Technology of McLean, Va., awarded the subcontract to ACS. The McLean, Va., systems integrator announced earlier this month that it had won a five-year, $64 million contract to help the department streamline data processing operations. That work also includes program management support for electronic benefits transfer services.

ACS of Dallas ranks No. 58 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
