The Naval Sea Systems Command awarded contracts for developing advanced computer display consoles with a combined maximum value of $146 million to a unit of General Dynamics Corp. and to DRS C3 Systems LLC.

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems of Fairfax, Va., won a contract with a maximum value of $83 million for Phase II development, production and support of the Common Enterprise Display System Display Consoles, the Navy said. The consoles, which offer human and machine interfaces to ship computers, are to be used on the DDG 1000 destroyer and the Aegis missile cruiser.

Similarly, DRS C3 Systems of Gaithersburg, Md., was awarded a $63 million contract for Phase II work on the same consoles. Both contracts are indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity and were awarded competitively.

General Dynamics will perform 69 percent of the work on the contract in Fairfax, to be completed by November 2008, and DRS will perform 45 percent in Duluth, Ga., and 20 percent in Gaithersburg, among other locations.

General Dynamics ranks No. 7 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
