SAIC to upgrade AF air traffic control systems

Science Applications International Corp. will help upgrade air traffic control radio systems for the Air Force under a new contract worth up to $80 million.

Under the contract, SAIC of San Diego will provide engineering services for the project, including recommending new radios and hardware, and procuring and installing equipment.

The contract will enable the Air Force to completely upgrade its air traffic control radio systems with new technology, the company said. The goal is to improve overall system availability and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

The General Services Administration awarded the contract to SAIC. The company will do the work primarily in San Diego.

SAIC ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
