OPNET has won a $5 million subcontract from NCI Information Systems Inc. to assist the Air Force with network analysis and related requirements.

Under the subcontract terms, OPNET of Bethesda, Md., will conduct network and application performance assessments at 27 Air Force bases over the next three years using its off-the-shelf software and best practice methodologies.

The work is known as the Snap-Shot Network Assessment and Capability Analysis project. Its purpose is to help the Air Force assess the progress and efficiency of its Information Transport System upgrade program.

NCI, based in Reston, Va., holds a prime contract through the Air Force Network-Centric Solutions contracting vehicle.

Working on the subcontract will give OPNET exposure to the Air Force's operational environment, said Marc Cohen, OPNET's chief executive officer.

OPNET's specialty is management software for networks and applications.
