"The potential here is huge, especially as we increase the applications on which we can overlay our industry leading technology."

Hart InterCivic Inc., a maker of electronic voting systems, has acquired a geographical information systems company and restructured to incorporate the new technology.

The Austin, Texas-based company acquired Farragut Systems Inc. in June, and announced the internal changes this week. The company has established five business units, drawing on both its existing capabilities and the new strengths brought in through the acquisition, to make the best use of the electronic voting and GIS capabilities.

The company plans to use its existing strength as an election systems to provider as a platform to develop local government customers for the new offerings, said Gregg Burt, Hart InterCivic's president and chief executive officer. The business units are:

  • Election solutions, a straightforward play for public, private and international election accounts.
  • Print solutions, for the printing of government forms and ballot programming.
  • Technology services, which provides project management, training and integration consulting and customized software products.
  • Records management solutions, for record keeping and the conversion of records into other formats.
  • Integrated GIS solutions, to make use the GIS's ability to analyze and manage data.
