The network and your customer

A February Tellabs Government Systems survey of 388 Government Computer News readers found that while large majorities believe that their agencies' communications networks have greater demands placed on them and are important to their agencies, fewer than half believed their agencies could quickly recover from a natural disaster or attack that takes the network down. The respondents were asked the following questions:


How much have the demands placed on your organization's communications network increased in the past five years?

Responding much to very much: 317 or 82 percent


How important is it that your network have the highest possible reliability?

Responding important to very important: 360 or 93 percent


How important is it that your agency offer full functionality for teleworkers to support them when working remotely?

Responding important to very important: 255 or 66 percent


How valuable would it be for your organization to be able to guarantee
higher levels of service for designated priority users?

Responding valuable to very valuable: 303 or 78 percent


How confident are you that your communications network could withstand a natural or man-made disaster and be rapidly restored?

Responding confident to very confident: 173 or 45 percent
