Incumbent: This is a new contract. Federal Aviation Administration | Wide Area Augmentation System Value: $674.5 billion. Status: RFP in March with an award in June. Competition type: Undetermined. What it will do: WAAS is an accurate satellite navigation system used for civil aviation and is the heart of FAA's plan to move from ground-based navigation to a satellite-based system. This contract is for Phase 3 and will cover operations transition, systems support and monitoring analysis. Incumbent: Raytheon Co. FBI | Next Generation Identification Value: $200 million. Status: RFP expected March 15, with an award in September. Competition type: Full and open. What it will do: This contract supports the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System. IAFIS provides automated fingerprint search capabilities and allows the FBI to store and exchange fingerprint images and information. It is the largest biometric database in the world with information on 47 million people. Incumbent: Lockheed Martin Corp. Internal Revenue Service | Digital Telecommunications Switching System 3 Value: $200 million. Status: RFP expected in June, with an award in September. But the cancellation of the Treasury Communications Enterprise contract in favor of Networx could affect DTS3. Competition type: Undetermined. What it will do: DTS provides voice communications to about 35,000 subscribers at 36 sites in the Washington, D.C., area. It connects to other communications systems and also provides videoconferencing capabilities. Incumbent: Verizon Communications Inc. What it will do: It will support the State Department's Foreign Affairs Information System by providing IT services such as Web development, hardware and software support, planning and analysis, procurement and systems integration. The FAIS processes classified information and gives State Department policy-makers desktop access to the foreign affairs database and lets them use informal messaging capability in a secure manner. Internal Revenue Service | Service Center Support System Value: $150 million.Status: RFP expected in October with an award in December.Competition type: Full and open.What it will do: The IRS uses the contract to support itsmainframe and server-based computer systems at variouscenters around the country. The contract includes maintenance,software support security and upgrades. Incumbent: Unisys Corp. Justice Department | Professional Assistance Contracts Value: $140 million for each award. Status: RFP expected in March with awards in September. Competition type: Full and open. What they will do: Justice is planning several awards in this program. Some will be structured as fixed-price contracts, some as task orders and others as time-and-materials contracts to give the agency flexibility in how and what it buys. The contracts will be used to support the Justice Management Division's asset forfeiture program. Internal Revenue Service | Communications Marketing and Taxpayer Information Program Value: $100 million.Status: RFP expected in March with awards in May.Competition type: Full and open.What it will do: As part of its strategy to be a customer-focused agency, the IRS uses marketing and communications firms for services such as strategic planning, corporate identity, account management and planning, market research, performance measures, and internal communications.Incumbent: Foote, Cone and Belding. What it will do: The contract supports call center operations by providing hardware, software and support for automatically distributing calls among IRS locations.
