FAA awards sole-source contract for air traffic support
FAA said the contract with consulting firm Mosaic ATM will serve as a bridge for the existing support contract with Subsystems Technology Inc. that runs out at the end of September.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it plans on awarding a private firm a sole-source contract to provide program development, computer programming and engineering support services for its air traffic management division.
In a recent notice, FAA said the contract with consulting firm Mosaic ATM of Leesburg, Va., will serve as a bridge for the existing support contract with Subsystems Technology Inc. of Rosslyn, Va., that runs out at the end of September.An FAA spokesman said the current contract is expiring because it reached a labor hours ceiling much quicker than expected.FAA will hold a competitive solicitation for the long-term operation of these services during fiscal year 2007, the notice said.The contract with Mosaic is for 9 months and will cost the agency approximately $975,000, FAA said.Under the contract, Mosaic will provide support for FAA's Air Traffic Organization-Operations Planning's Surface Decision Support System, located at an FAA facility in Louisville, Ky.The SDSS is still in development and is intended to integrate data from various automated surveillance systems and provide information to air traffic controllers from off-site locations.Rob Thormeyer is a staff writer for Washington Technology's sister publication, Government Computer News.
