Senate approves Portman, Doan to lead OMB, GSA respectively
The Senate has confirmed former congressman Robert Portman as the new director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Lurita Alexis Doan as the next administrator of the General Services Administration.
The Senate has confirmed former congressman Robert Portman as the new director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Lurita Alexis Doan as the next administrator of the General Services Administration.
President Bush nominated Portman in mid-April after tapping former OMB director Joshua Bolten to become White House chief of staff.
Portman, a six-term Republican former representative from Ohio, left Congress in 2005 when Bush named him trade representative. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved his nomination earlier this month, and the full Senate voted to confirm him shortly before the Memorial Day holiday.
The Senate also confirmed Doan, a businesswoman and founder of New Technology Management Inc. of Reston, Va., to lead GSA. Bush nominated Doan last month to replace Stephen Perry, who left the agency in the fall of 2005.
Doan comes to GSA at a critical time, as the agency is in the midst of a major reorganization and recently won approval to offer buyouts and early retirements to about 400 employees in certain divisions that are losing revenue.
