New technology chief for Citizenship and Immigration Services

The Homeland Security Department's Citizenship and Immigration Services agency has brought on Jeff Conklin as CIO. He succeeds Terrazzia Martin, who moved to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence earlier this month.

Before joining the immigration services agency, Conklin was chief executive officer of the Washington School Information Processing Cooperative for six years. In that job, he managed a 110-person agency that provides technology services to 280 of Washington state's 296 school districts.

The cooperative furnishes systems to support management of school districts' finance, human resources, student management, food service and other business process needs. Conklin coordinated the cooperative's work with the state superintendent's office, nine educational-service districts and 280 school districts.

Earlier, Conklin led technology support activities at the Education Department and worked in Defense Department e-commerce, human resources management and medical information system projects. He was an information systems management officer and platoon commander in the Marine Corps and has taught IT courses at the National Defense University.
