DOD Joint Command and Control program has new moniker: NECC
The name change was done to prevent confusion between joint command and control, which is a well-known concept promoted across DOD, as well as the former name of the Defense Information Systems Agency's acquisition program.
The Defense Department's Joint Command and Control program has been renamed the Net-Enabled Command Capability and has moved from Milestone A to the technology development phase.

"The term Net-Enabled Command Capability (NECC) better defines the materiel solution being developed to support both joint and global command and control requirements, as it will provide the net-centric capability solution set for DOD command and control extending across the national, strategic, operational, and tactical warfighting levels," according to a news release.
In addition to the name change, Air Force Brig. Gen. David Warner, director of command and control programs at DISA, said NECC would now proceed to the technology development phase.
"The achievement of Milestone A marks a significant step for us," Warner said in the release. "NECC will vastly enhance command and control capabilities for the warfighter, providing the ability to rapidly adapt to changing mission needs and allowing for net-centric collaboration among the joint community."
NECC, one of DISA's major transformational initiatives, will eventually replace the Global Command and Control Systems as the main joint battlefield C2 system.
